Thai Binh delicacies that you don’t forget
Banh cay (cay cake) is a traditional cake of Nguyen village, Dong Hung district. Thisdish was used to offer to the King in the past. It’s a combination of different cereals. Banh cay is limber and tenacious. Its distinct sweetness fits perfectly with the acrid taste of tea so they are often served together.
Canh ca Quynh Coi (Quynh Coi fish soup) has long been famous with its easy recipe. With just a few simple ingredients, the cook can create the amazing flavor of fish soup. Instead of using noodles, locals here choose banh da – another type of rice noodle that is sweeter, smoother, and more tenacious.
Guava is a familiar fruit of many provinces in Vietnam. However, Bo guava of Thai Binh is always more preferred thanks to its great quality and special flavor. The best Bo guavas are grown on rich alluvial soils in Bo village. This fruit is often harvested in July.
Raw “Nhech” fish is a favorite food of the locals in Diem Dien village, Thai Thuy town, Thai Binh province.
Bun bung (banana blossom noodle soup) has various flavors including the acrid taste of banana blossom, the fatty taste of pork meat, the fragrance of blumea lanceolaria, etc.
In Thai Binh, bumalo season starts from September to February (lunar calendar). Bumalo soup is the most popular dish of the locals here with the light sweet taste and fresh fragrance.
Dai Dong village, Vu Thu district has been famous for the delicacy “banh gai” (little ramie rice cake) for about 400 years.
Field mice meat often appears in wedding feasts as a specialty of the locals here.
